Description
COMPOSITION :
Each capsule contains 500 mg Lincomycin (as HCl)
ACTIONS:
Lincomycin HCL is a lincosamide antibiotic with a primarily bacteriostatic action against gram positive organisms and a wide –
range of anaerobic pathogens, as well as some antiprotozoal actions. It has antimicrobial actions and uses similar to
clindamycin but is less potent.
INDICATIONS :
For infections caused by susceptible strains of streptococcus, pneumococcus and staphylococcus. Its use should be reserved for
patients who are allergic to penicillin or patients for whom, according to doctor’s judgment, treatment with penicillin is
inappropriate.
For treatment of staphylococcal infections resistant to other antibiotics and susceptible to lincomycin.
DOSAGE & ADMINISTRATION :
Adults : For Mild Infections : 500 mg 3 times a day . For severe Infections : 500 mg 4 times a day or as recommended
by physician.
Children : 30 – 60 mg/kg body weight 3-4 times a day in divided doses.
For infections due to Streptococcus Beta – haemolyticus, treatment should be continued for a minimum of 10 days. For
optimal absorption. It is recommended not to take any food expect water 1 hr before and 2 hrs after taking Tamcocin.
CONTRAINDICATIONS :
Not to be used for treatment of minor bacterial or viral infections or to patients previously found to be hypersensitive to
lincomycin or clindamycin.
Do not use for treatment of rheumatic fever, patients with liver or renal dysfunctions, endocrine and metabolic disorders, during
pregnancy and in newborn babies.
PRECAUTIONS :
Discontinue treatment if diarrhea or inflammation of the colon should occur.
Prolonged treatment with antibiotic will result in an overgrowth of nonsusceptible organisms particularly yeast.
Caution should be taken when given to patients with a history of asthma or other allergies.
Use in lactation: Safe use in lactation women has not been established.
INTERACTIONS :
Lincomycin has neuromuscular blocking effect and can potentiate the action of other neuromuscular-blocking agents.
